Players kick in to help

CLARENCE’S Tasmanian State League Women’s football team has twice the reason to win on Sunday when it faces the Burnie Dockers at Blundstone Arena.

The Roos owe the Dockers for beating them in last year’s grand final and the Roos are out to raise money for a clubmate in need.

“A young girl who has family ties to Clarence footy club has been going through a very tough time so we are hoping to raise some funds to help her future,” said Clarence captain Zoie Crawford.

Clarence is on top of the ladder despite a loss last weekend.

“We really want to make up for that and get a good run coming into the finals,” Crawford said.

“We are top of the ladder, based on percentage, and after Burnie we’ve got the Tigers and Glenorchy before the finals.

“It’s important to finish on top to have as many home finals as we can.”

It will be the Roos’ first TSLW game at Blundstone Arena this year.

“For a lot of the girls it’s their first game ever on Blundstone,” Crawford said.

“It’s a big ground, which suits our style really well. We’re fit, a good running team and a skilful team. Come along. You’ll see a really good competitive game of footy.

“There’s a good rivalry between the two teams, even though we are higher on the ladder and you’ll help raise funds for a good cause.”
