Time to take centre stage

THE Media Production department at Rosny College is widely regarded throughout Tasmania in both education and industry circles.

It’s an area of study at the college that was introduced more than thirty years ago and continues to expand with many students going on to work in the industry.

Students at the college have a range of courses to choose from within the department, including Media Production (Screen) 2C and 3C and a range of Vocational Education and Training (VET) certificates.

Rosny is the only senior secondary college that offers Certificate IV in Screen and Media in Tasmania.

In 2018 the department also plans to begin their expansion into print media opportunities.

Rosny is the only college to have its own HD Television studio with broadcast quality cameras, a wide range of filming equipment, and a growing number of edit suites providing for students at all interest levels with industry level training.

Opportunities for students include live TV studio and outside broadcast shoots, film writing and producing, and client-based work where students work with businesses to create products for them.

The school has also recently seen students gain full time employment at Southern Cross Austereo and currently has two students completing internships with the ABC.

To see some of the students’ work follow the Rosny College real media Performing Arts Facebook page and watch The Rewind, Rosny’s new talk show, which is an initiative of the VET Media class.

The show focuses on chatting with Rosny alumni in a live TV studio environment to find out what they have done since attending Rosny College.

So far guests this year have included costume designer Angie White and SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY’s Mitch McPherson, with many big names yet to come in 2017.

Expressions of interest are currently being taken for Certificate II, III and IV in Screen and Media for 2018.

Contact the school for more information.
