KANE CALLS IT A DAY

ROUND 19 VOTES

- KYLE WISNIEWSKI

HE may not be sure about his career future, but one thing Hobart City Demons’ coach Kane Richter knows is he won’t be playing next season.

Richter, 34, has decided to hang up the boots after a long career in Tasmanian football since coming to the state when he was 16.

“I think that’s Richter said.

“It’s time to step back and try to start developing people rather than focusing on getting a kick myself,” he said.

After a disappointing 82point loss at the weekend to Lauderdale the Demons are yet to make it to the TSL finals under the Hobart City name.

The club is conducting a review of its football department and Richter, who is also general manager of the club, is not sure what roles he will be filling at the end of this season.

“I haven’t actually made the choice between admin and coaching and I probably need to,” Richter said.

“We need to look seriously if the role can be a joint role between general manager and club coach and if that is sustainable for not just myself but also the club.”

The Demons’ finals chances may have been denied by Lauderdale on Saturday, but Richter is excited for what the future holds for his club.

“It’s a disappointing Richter said.

“We had a real opportunity to take it up to Lauderdale on the weekend and give us a chance to play in September.

“We have seen improvement by the squad on and off the field, which we will get rewarded with in the future.

“We had two 16-year-olds playing their second game and it for me,” end,” TSL PLAYER OF THE YEAR Lauderdale v Hobart City 3 ..... Josh McGuinness (L’dale) 2 .................... Alex Hill (L’dale) 1 .............. Bryce Walsh (L’dale) Devonport v Launceston

most of the squad are yet to play 20 senior games.”

The red-hot Lauderdale continued its outstanding form and Richter points to the Bombers’ offensive play as being their main weapon.

“I think we are looking past the fact that Lauderdale has improved greatly this year,” Richter said.

“They are a offensive side.

“There were some instances on the weekend where they broke away from the stoppage and were able to really run forward with purpose.”

Josh McGuinness, of Lauderdale, was awarded three votes in the TSL player of the year award.

Teammates Alex Hill and Bryce Walsh received two and one votes.

Brodie Palfreyman, from Launceston, was the other player to be awarded best player for this round’s only other game, where Launceston won over Devonport. really strong
