Walking dead on the march in Hobart

- KANE YOUNG

LOCK your doors, and keep that tasty brain of yours under wraps — hundreds of undead are ready to shuffle their way through the streets of Hobart tomorrow.

The 10th annual Hobart Zombie March will see a horde of reanimated corpses descend on the city, hungry for brains and, more importantly, some good, unclean fun.

Zombie March organiser Chris Eaton said the Hobart event had “groan” from humble beginnings in 2007, when only about a dozen people took part. About 300 zombies are expected to march tomorrow, and the event’s Facebook group now has nearly 2000 members.

“In the current climate we live in, there’s plenty of doom and gloom, and this is basically an excuse for people who like zombies to get together with like-minded people and have some fun,” he said.

Zombies should gather in Princes Park (99 Salamanca Place) at 1pm tomorrow, with the march to set off at 2pm and make its way along Salamanca, through the CBD and on to the Brisbane Hotel.

Prizes will be awarded to the best male, female, child and group get-up.

“We’re really encouraging everybody to go above and beyond with their costuming, so we’re expecting some fantastic zombie costumes this year,” Mr Eaton said.
