Rylah joins Pieman push

- NICK CLARK

THE Hodgman Government wants the Arthur Pieman Conservation Area management committee reinstated as it moves closer to a possible reopening of areas to four-wheel driving.

A submission about the reopening will be lodged with Federal Environment Minister Josh Frydenberg within weeks.

Braddon MHA Joan Rylah said the Government was committed to reversing the LaborGreen “lockups” of the ArthurPieman area to recreational off-road drivers.

Speaking at a Reconciliation Rally in Smithton yesterday, she announced her support for the reinstatement of the committee, which was disbanded during court proceedings on the issue.

“It is clear the community needs their voice heard on this and other important matters,” she said. “Ac- cordingly, I will be strongly advocating for the committee to be reinstated immediately upon the lodgement of the tracks submission to the federal minister, which will be made in the next few weeks.

“The Liberal Government is committed to facilitating sensible and appropriate access to our natural areas for all Tasmanians, and the reinstatement of the committee will enable the community a stronger voice regarding important matters such as this.”

The Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre won a halt to the tracks reopening in the Federal Court.

The Liberals are fighting to retain the four out of five seats they presently have in Braddon at next year’s election.
