Yole be in the record books

- KYLE WISNIEWSKI

BEN Yole has elevated himself to sit alone at the top of the category for most wins in a Tasmanian season by a trainer.

Yole entered last night’s program at Hobart’s Luxbet Park on 118 wins for the season, which put him equal with Neville Webberley.

Yole only had to wait until race three to eclipse the record with a great win by Sheer Strength. Sheer Strength was impressive in the triumph with Rohan Hillier driving to an 18½m victory over another Yole-trained horse, Another Swinger.

From the start Sheer Strength led the 2090m race and was only matched early by Classy Guy.

Along the back straight Sheer Strength maintained the lead and was three metres in front after the first quarter.

With 400m to go Hillier was able to increase the lead to 12m and the lead only grew from there with a winning time of 2:33:75. Yole wasn’t surprised by Sheer Strength, who went into the event at $4.30 starting odds behind Another Swinger at $2.50 and Classy Guy at $3.40.

“He is a very nice horse and a good front runner,” Yole said.

“Once he got out the front no one was going to catch him.

“He is as good as Swinger or any other horse in the race, he just needs to get in the lead.”

The Sidmouth-based trainer was delighted the record was broken early in the meet.

“The win got it [the record] over and done with which was good,” Yole said.

“It means we can keep marching on now.”

Yole finished the night with four wins, putting his season tally on 122.

Race four was the best race of the card with a photo finish showing Boltnmach a head over Smilin Geoff. Boltnmach and Smilin Geoff both kicked on the home stretch but driver Justin Campbell was able to get Boltnmach the win from the outside.

The sixth event was also a photo finish with Jilliby just edging out Olwen Jaccka.

Earlier in the program Ideal Karalta got a win in race one and the Rodney Ashwood-trained Swap Me had a strong win in race two.
