DEMONS IN BIG FINISH

- JAMES BRESNEHAN

THE TSL Tigers’ nightmare run against the Demons continued last night as Hobart City disposed of their Kingborough cousin by 19 points under lights at North Hobart Oval.

The boys of black and yellow leapt out of the blocks faster than their furry namesake but a Tiger nap in the second and third quarters, and that they butchered the ball so badly, saw the Demons edge away to a lead they couldn’t run down.

It was Hobart City’s second consecutive win over the Tigers, who went down screaming by 54 points to the Dees at the same venue in round 12. The Demons won this one 14.12 (96) to 11.11 (77).

It capped a season of discontent for Tigers coach Aaron Vince and gave his Hobart City counterpart great hope going forward.

“I’d love to coach them again next year,” said Demons coach Kane Richter.

“We’ve got a job that isn’t finished yet.

“I want to make sure that we finish that job, but it’s up to the club.

“We’ve got to look at the sustainability of the club and what’s best for the club and what’s best for the boys.

“They’re a young group and they are working really hard and it’s rewarding to see them play the way they did tonight.”

It was also a case of third time lucky for Hobart City at night, having lost twice to Glenorchy after dark this season.

Daniel Archer looked dangerous in the opening term when he kicked two goals but that was all she wrote for the big fly-in Tiger as he was quelled by Demon William Hay.

His forward line colleague Hugh Dixon was impressive, pulling down a hanger followed soon after by a huge pack mark and kicked three goals in a performance that will make AFL recruiters take note.

Running Tiger Mitch Carter was stifled by the defensive forward role of young gun Kyle Wisniewski, while in the midfield Will “Soup” Campbell and Edward Cole ran riot, each kicking two goals.

At the other end, skipper Hugh Williams played the Luke Hodge “general” style role and pushed forward to kick a late goal.

Burnie beat Devonport 14.8 (92) to 12.12 (84) in the Coastal derby with forward Blair Rub- ock drilling five goals for the Dockers but it was not enough for last year’s preliminary finalist to avoid the wooden spoon.
