CLARENCE WAITING ON WYLIE ALL-CLEAR

- JAMES BRESNEHAN

CLARENCE rates defender Keegan Wylie a 50-50 chance to play in Saturday’s TSL qualifying final blockbuster against Lauderdale at Blundstone Arena, and the Roos will give him until match day to prove his fitness.

Clarence coach Jeromey Webberley said yesterday Wylie was recovering well from a collision with Glenorchy premiership backman Ben Reynolds that sent him to hospital mid-match.

Reynolds was cited for the clash but the match review panel found he had no case to answer for the accidental contact.

As well as concussion, Wylie was originally said to have a burst eardrum, but Webberley said that was not the case.

“We will err on the side of caution with him, but Keegan’s improved over the past couple of days,” he said.

“He’s got concussion, but he is getting better each day, so we’re going to see how he feels later in the week and he will obviously have to get a clearance from the doctor before he’s allowed to play.

“So he’s 50-50 at the moment, and other than that we’ve got a clean bill of health.”

It means onballers Jackson O’Brien and Jack Gleeson, defender Jason Bailey, forward Trent Standen and back pocket James Holmes are all available to play.

Lauderdale will regain onballers Robbie McManus and Rhys Sutton, and second ruckman Ben McGuinness, all of whom missed the clash with Clarence at Blundstone two weeks ago.

Launceston could also have significant gains for its elimination final against Glenorchy at Blundstone on Saturday.

Coach Sam Lonergan heads the list of players returning, along with ball magnet Sam Rundell and key defender Jimmy Agganis

They were all “on ice” for the last home-and-away game against minor premier North Launceston at Windsor Park last Saturday.

“It was the right time to manage some players heading into the finals,” Lonergan said.

Other Blues in line for selection are midfielders Jake Smith and Jordan Harris, who played in the Mercury Cup.
