Mercury (Hobart)

Global gig suits them nicely

-

HAVING been granted full diplomatic immunity, the sartorially splendid Client Liaison are set to invade the international cocktail circuit — but not before taking their off-white limousine for one more lap of Australia, including a stop in Hobart on Saturday night.

Led by fashion-forward CEOs Monte Morgan and Harvey Miller, AO, Client Liaison will be flying the Aussie flag across New Zealand, Europe and the US on their Foreign Affair World Tour, introducing global audiences to an act that is both international in flavour and cosmopolitan in style.

They’re still basking in the success of their debut album, Diplomatic Immunity, a throwback mix of new wave, disco, synth-pop and sax solos that has spawned the radio hits World of Love, Wild Life and Off White Limousine, and their Tina Arena collaboration A Foreign Affair.

The Guardian hailed Diplomatic Immunity as “among the best pop records Australia will get this year”, while Rolling Stone called it “at once irresistibly stupid and very, very clever ... well worth the wait”.

For the Australian leg of the world tour, Client Liaison are being joined by Melbourne disco band Total Giovanni, who last month released their latest single Your Light — their first new music since 2015.

Your Light reintroduces the breezy grooves, polyrhythmic beats, falsetto chorus, layered lo-fi synths and pulsating guitars that Total Giovanni — Vincent D (guitar, synths, vocals), Spike Punch (percussion), Cavallo Nero (guitar), Shidi Amin (bass) and Shattered Guru (beats) — are known for.

Client Liaison, Total Giovanni and Sydney electropop act MUKI play at the Odeon Theatre from 7pm on Saturday. Tickets are $44.90, go to www.oztix.com.au for bookings.
