FATHER’S

Day is this weekend, so what better time for Launceston ensemble The Bad Dad Orchestra to launch their new EP?

Described as “part soul rock juggernaut, part support group, part motorcycle gang”, The Bad Dad Orchestra is based around friendship and fatherhood (and beer). It’s a big band with big grooves and big boots — and you’ve got to be a dad to join.

The Orchestra currently features nine dads — Carl Treasure (guitar, vocals), Elliot Courtnage (Hammond organ, vocals), Luke Young (drums), Vince Walker (bass), Jimi Steele (vocals, percussion), Liam Guthrie (guitar, vocals), Carl Bulow (saxophone), Chris Bonner (trombone) and Shaun Dearing (trumpet) — who have each played a major role on the Launceston music scene over the past decade.

The band has proved popular with audiences at events including the Falls Festival, Party in the Paddock and the Taste of Tasmania, and is now set to release its latest EP, Go and Ask

Your Mother, which will be available from online retailers from tomorrow.

After a Live at The Wharf show in Ulverstone from 5.30pm tomorrow, The Bad Dad Orchestra play at The Homestead in North Hobart from 9pm on Saturday, joined by Hobart neosoul and post-blues band Mocane. Tickets are $10 at the door.

The two bands then play a Father’s Day gig at Earthy Eats in Launceston from 5pm on Sunday. Tickets are available from www.moshtix.com.au

The Bad Dads also play at the Junction Arts Festival’s Fountain Bar from 8pm next Friday (September 8).
