Webberley in doubt, but Roos counting on Wylie

- JAMES BRESNEHAN

CLARENCE defender Keegan Wylie is back, but a cloud hangs over the fitness of coach Jeromey Webberley heading into the Roos’ do-or-die TSL first semifinal against Launceston at Blundstone Arena tomorrow.

Wylie missed Clarence’s loss to Lauderdale in the qualifying final at the same ground last Saturday, while Webberley (calf) hobbled his way through the second half.

Webberley rated himself as a 70 per cent chance to play.

“It’s not a tear. I just got a pretty bad corky against Glenorchy late in the last quarter and it was tight the whole next week,” he said.

“And then trying to run and play on it last week, it just seized up.

“It’s still quite tender and inflamed, but once it starts to come right it will come right pretty quickly.

“If I think I can get through then I’ll play.

“I’ll have to see how it is on Saturday morning — go for a jog and I’ll know if I’m right to play.”

If Webberley goes out, it will be a straight swap for Wylie.

“At the start of the year no one took any notice of him, but now they are starting to put time into him,” Webberley said.

“His ability to mark the ball in oneon-ones and use the ball out of the back half is something we missed last week.

“He’s a massive in for us this weekend.”

Launceston brought in Sam Rundle, but forward Corey Sheppard won’t play until next year after surgery on his fractured hand on Wednesday.
