Cream of crop rises to the top in trophy finals

ELDERSLIE Golf Club hosted the first and quarter-final rounds of the RHL Roberts Memorial Trophy last weekend.

First-round wins went to Pittwater, Iron Pot, Kingston Beach, Orford, Claremont, Huon Valley, Tasmania and New Norfolk. In the afternoon, Pittwater downed Iron Pot 5&4, Kingston Beach beat Orford 4&3, Huon Valley topped Claremont 5&4 and Tasmania overcame New Norfolk 4&3.

Pittwater’s Adam Mahoney and John Brockman will take on Kingston Beach’s Shaun Smith and Matthew Glover in the first semi-final this Sunday.

Luke Tumney and Craig O’Keefe from Huon Valley will play Tasmania Golf Club’s Brett Geeves and Josh Spaulding in the second semi-final.

The semi and final rounds are hosted by Kingston Beach Golf Club and start at 8.30am. The final tees off at 12.30pm. THE first round of the Wom- en’s Golf Tasmania-South Open and Division Two Championsh­ips were held on Sunday at the Claremont Golf Club.

With a round of 85, Sue Richardson from the Richmond Golf Club leads by one stroke from Royal Hobart Golf Club’s Anne Medlycott on 86.

Local member Jane Bliss leads division two with a round of 95, one stroke clear of Royal Hobart’s Meredith Graham. Medlycott and Graham lead the veteran and senior veteran championsh­ips respective­ly. MARK Schulze was the leading Tasmanian in this week’s Mandurah Amateur Open in Western Australia.
