AUSTRALIAN Defence Force recruiters are in town, and Tasmanians are signing up.

The Australian Defence Force Careers Expo continues today at Princes Wharf No. 1, with information about more than 200 career opportunities in the Navy, Army and Air Force.

Hutchins School Year 12 student Timothy Summerfield said he had been considering a career in the Air Force for a couple of years, and talking to a pilot during a recent school visit about the job opportunities available had further convinced him to join.

Timothy said he had signed up for four years general entry to the Air Force, and would be working in the area of airbased security.

Fellow Year 12 Hutchins student Thomas Bester has applied for the Air Force’s gap year program, also in the field of air-based security.

The careers expo includes demonstrations from the Federation Guard, Army vehicles and a flight simulator.

The Royal Australian Air Force’s aerobatic team, the Roulettes, will put on a display over Princes Wharf No. 1 about 11am today, and the Roulette team will be on the ground at the expo this afternoon.

Tomorrow about 11.45am the Roulettes will put on an aerobatic display over the Cenotaph as part of the Battle of Britain commemorations.

The careers expo is on from 9am to 3.30pm today.
