Tings are really looking up for Hobart

-

UNDERGROUND Melbourne DJ and producer Roland Tings is set to surface in Hobart again on Saturday night.

Tings (Rohan Newman) has come a long way since his days as an elusive bedroom producer, combining euphoric techno, infectious pop and cosmic synthscapes to create the “club-ready oddities with neon finesse” that have quickly made him one of the most talked-about artists on the Australian club scene. Since releasing his debut EP

Milky Way in 2012, Tings has taken his sound to dance floors in more than 15 countries across Europe and Asia, headlining his own shows and supporting the likes of Jamie xx, AlunaGeorge, Chet Faker, Optimo, Tim Sweeney and Juan Atkins.

Tings’ 2015 self-titled debut album featured the banger

Devotion, which landed at No.2 on inthemix’s countdown of the Top 100 Tracks of that year.

After first visiting Hobart for the 2014 Mona Foma festival, Tings has become a regular visitor to Tasmania and was last here in April to launch his latest EP, Each

Moment A Diamond, which includes the singles Higher Ground (featuring Nylo) and Garden Piano.

Tings then took off to the US, where he spent six weeks touring with co-headliners Clark and Com Truise. Now he’s headed back to Hobart for a one-off show this weekend.

Joined by Perth DJ Lou Mac and local support Bronze Savage, Roland Tings plays upstairs at the Odeon Theatre from 9pm on Saturday. Tickets start at $10, for bookings go to www.eventbrite.com.au
