I feel fantastic, Greenwood insists

ADELAIDE’S latest rookie revelation Hugh Greenwood has dismissed injury concerns over his calf, saying he feels “fantastic” and will be a certain starter in today’s AFL Grand Final.

Tasmanian Greenwood had a light week on the training track as he managed what was believed to be calf tightness but has been passed fit to play in the biggest game of his life.

“Absolutely, I don’t think I’d be playing if that was the case [injured],” Greenwood said in Melbourne yesterday. “I’m feeling fantastic, I’ve ticked all the boxes so I’m raring to go.”

The grand final continues Greenwood’s dramatic rise this season from former basketballer on the Crows’ rookie list to one of its most important midfielders. His tackling and contested ball numbers are through the roof and his overhead marking has been a feature of his game as he has provided the Crows’ midfield with a different dimension.

He began the year as Adelaide’s SANFL captain but was upgraded from the rookie list to make his AFL debut against Brisbane in Round 9.

“The whole week, actually the whole year for me has been crazy, so to be here in the last weekend in September is pretty surreal,” Greenwood said. “My goal from day one was just to play a game; now to be 15 games in and part of the grand final parade has exceeded all expectations.

“I’m really going to enjoy tomorrow and obviously take care of business.”
