Pies keen to stitch up contract with Fasolo

- JAY CLARK

COLLINGWOOD will meet forward Alex Fasolo to discuss his plans for next season upon his return from an overseas holiday this week.

West Coast has renewed its interest in the WA goalkicker as part of plans to bolster the Eagles’ small forward stocks.

While the Magpies are confident of keeping Fasolo, sen- ior officials will double-check with the No.45 draft pick that he wants to remain in Melbourne for 2018. He is contracted for next season.

Fasolo, 25, is known to have a strong relationship with senior coach Nathan Buckley and lauded the club for its unwavering support as he sought treatment for a mental health issue this year.

Fasolo booted a career-high 29 goals from 19 games this season and will become a free agent at the end of his eighth season next year. THE 2017 draft order has been locked in. However, with the AFL trade period kicking off next week, huge changes are expected over the fortnightly exchange period.

Richmond’s drought-breaking premiership sees it claim the final pick of the first round, pick No.17, while minor premier Adelaide slips to No.16

The Tigers also own Geelong’s first-round draft pick — via Carlton and GWS — meaning Richmond will have picks No.15 and 17.

Greater Western Sydney will not have a first-round pick this season because of sanctions stemming from the Lachie Whitfield drug ban.

The Giants were penalised 1000 draft points, seeing their top pick drop to No.63. Indicative first-round order: 1. Brisbane; 2. Gold Coast; 3. Carlton; 4. North Melbourne; 5. Fremantle; 6. Collingwood; 7. St Kilda (from Hawthorn); 8. St Kilda; 9. Western Bulldogs; 10. Melbourne; 11. Essendon; 12. Brisbane (from Port Adelaide, via Gold Coast); 13. West Coast; 14. Sydney; 15. Richmond (from Geelong, via Carlton and GWS); 16. Adelaide; 17. Richmond.
