Honoured guests at the dentist

- Marie and Len Archer Taranna

AS old age pensioners with meagre financial resources, we have struggled to pay the exorbitant costs of private dentists. We have won the dental lottery. After two years on the waiting list, we were invited to Clarence Dental Clinic at Rosny Park. We were treated by senior UTAS dental students. They were fabulous: gentle, caring and thorough. We had examinations and cleans but happily no other procedures were required. These talented young dentists took the time to obtain complete health and den- tal histories. We were amazed at their friendliness and the respect they showed to two sick, elderly patients. They described everything they were about to do and there was no hurry. The atmosphere was welcoming and we felt like honoured guests. And no waiting — we were ushered into the treatment rooms on time. Congratulations, Shirley, Jason, Som and associate. The supervising dentist was unobtrusive but didn’t miss a trick. A lovely, competent lady. Thanks to the reception staff for explaining clearly what would happen, costs etc. Not many people can say they had a great day at the dentist. We did and we are blown away. However, the treatment rooms were not equipped with spittoons for disposal of detritus. This is embarrassing for young dentists and awkward for patients. Fix it Will, 20 grand should do it. We are enjoying a special bottle of Australian bubbly we opened to celebrate our good fortune. Cheers.
