Hobart, it’s your turn to be Judged

ONE

of Australia’s most highly regarded standups, Chris Wainhouse, is bringing his razor-sharp wit and daringly clever material to Hobart’s Jokers Comedy Club next week.

Once described as having “more character than a Disney movie”, Wainhouse’s career took off in 1999 when he won the Raw Comedy national final.

He has gone on to be crowned the Australian Comedian of the Year — an award previously won by the likes of Carl Barron, Flacco and The Umbilical Brothers — and share stages with performers such as Jeff Green, Arj Barker and “The Regurgitator”, Stevie Starr.

Last year Wainhouse — who has been seen on TV programs including 110% Tony Squires, Rove Live, The Footy Show and The Comedy Channel’s Headliners — won the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s coveted Piece of Wood Award for his show The Antichris.

Known in the industry as “the comedian’s comedian’’ award, the Piece of Wood is voted on by a committee of comedians including Greg Fleet, Fiona O’Loughlin, Stewart Lee, Charlie Pickering, Tom Gleeson, Lawrence Mooney and Sam Simmons.

Most recently, Wainhouse has been performing his latest show, Judged.

At Jokers next week, he will be supported by Sydney-based comedian Katie Burch, who was runner-up in the 2014 Raw Comedy national final and is now one of the nation’s brightest rising comedy stars.

Hosted by Gavin Baskerville, Jokers Comedy Club will be held at The Polish Corner in New Town from 8pm on Wednesday.

Tickets are $22 pre-sale from www.jokers comedy.com.au and Centertainment (phone 6234 5998), or $25 at the door (if not already sold out).
