Plenty of exciting Company

-

Tasmanian Song Company and New Zealand’s Wanganui Male Choir will team up for a combined performance at the Moonah Arts Centre tonight.

TSC president Maree Richards said the visiting choir was formed 119 years ago, making it one of the longest-running choirs in New Zealand.

For their Tasmanian performance they will be led by their new musical director, Margaret Thompson, and new accompanist Caitlin Arthur.

“Our choir has been planning and practising for this combined concert since September last year,” Richards said.

“We are thrilled with the contrast of songs in the program, and we are especially excited to be uniting with a male choir.

“The sound of male voices in song is very stirring indeed. Add to that the combined soprano, mezzo, alto, tenor and bass voices of Tasmanian Song Company and it becomes an event not to be missed.”

TSC musical director Matthew Ives said instrumental accompaniment would add to the success of the concert.

“We are excited to have Hamish Houston back on stage with us playing bass, which adds more colour and variety to the choir’s sound,” he said.

“We’ll also have Tom Misson playing keyboards and myself on percussion.”

The concert will be held at the Moonah Arts Centre from 8pm tonight. Tickets are $25 for adults and $22 concession, available from www.trybooking.com
