Basic income for all means a fair go

- Hugh McLean Taroona Kim Peart Ross

ALEXIS Wadsley presses a raw nerve of our national economy (Talking Point, October 14). With warnings of half of paid work vanishing over the next decade, we can trundle down the Centrelink robot highway, or we can decide our economy will now serve the needs of all.

There is a simple way out of this mess, if we require government to provide work with a minimum wage. This is called a government employment guarantee. It will solve housing insecurity and homelessness, because workers re- quire homes. Private enterprise will pay the minimum wage to attract workers.

Centrelink will shrink, the job network will disappear and scam training colleges will be a shameful chapter in our political history. National service, either military or peace, would be a way to prepare young people for life in a society built on a fair for. There could be a universal basic income for all, as argued now by many, including Elon Musk.

This approach to a new and fair economy could work in Australia and other wealthy nations, but globally? That where we need space development.

This will also create exciting careers in every field. How many Einsteins are not lost in poverty? We can plan for and design a far better world. It begins with each citizen demanding a fair go for all, including ex-service personnel. Solving the poverty problem is also the key to peace on Earth. The good news is, Australia now has a space agency. is
