Banks leads late run home

DERWENT City travelled to New Norfolk and was in front with a few ends to go in the second round of the Bowls Tasmania South DJ Motors Premier Division season on Saturday before New Norfolk stormed home picking up 15 shots over the last few ends to win by nine shots.

Mitch Banks played big bowls all day to defeat Rod Turner by 10 shots. Kerry Hill picked up six shots on the last four ends to beat Grant Dud- man by seven shots. Barry Bone trailed Peter Bannister until the 22nd end with Bone going on to win by one shot.

Derwent City’s Ricky Maughan defeated Wayne Clark by nine shots.

Sandy Bay showed that it is a real premiershi­p threat with a thrilling one-shot win over reigning premiers Kingboroug­h.

Sandy Bay’s win was set up by Andrew Norris who had an 11-shot win over Ben Dayton. Josh Mabb defeated Taelyn Male by one shot and Josh Tegg and Tony Clark played a draw. Jason Fowler was Kingboroug­h’s only winner beating Brad Mabb by 11 shots.

Glenorchy Rodman picked up a valuable 34-shot win at home against Claremont. Tony Vince was too strong for Tony Hack winning by 22 shots.

With Marcus Axelsen leading well, Josh Baker overcame a slow start to record a 22-shot victory over Wayne Lampkin.

In a battle of the young guns Luke Turner and Jack Ellis played out a thrilling draw in a game that could have gone either way.

Claremont secured a rink win with John Howard defeating Cam Tegg by 10 shots.

Rosny Park was ruthless in its 64-shot victory over Beltana. Mick Sweeney easily defeated Owen O’Driscoll by 26 shots. Lee Schraner, who had only returned from Darwin on Saturday morning after his National Champion of Champions win, defeated Mick Coppleman by 25 shots.

Connor Munnings came from behind to defeat Shane Young by 10 shots. David Genford picked up a six on the first end and despite keeping the game close Nick Courto couldn’t bridge the gap, going down by three shots.

Brighton surprised with a 19-shot win over Buckingham on a slow home green. With Ross Mitchelmor­e outstandin­g, John North thrashed Keghan Booth by 25 shots. David Cure defeated Michael Taylor by five shots. Grant Wakefield and Don Holland played a draw. Alvin Cooke was Buckingham’s only winner beating Michael Daniels by nine shots.
