Georgia all business as she wins another title

- STUART EATON

TASMANIA Golf Club’s Georgia Milbourne has won her fifth consecutive Business Women’s Open title.

The 19-year-old took out this year’s event on Sunday at Tasmania Golf Club with a fine even-par round of 74.

Milbourne beat her nearest rival, Lily Caelli from the Prospect Vale Golf Club, by three strokes on 77 (+3). Third place went to Riverside Golf Club’s Amanda Smith on 81 (+7).

The club teams event was won by the host club on a countback from the Prospect Vale Golf Club.

Tasmania’s Lesley Bick and Milbourne combined for a nett total of 148 with Lindsay French and Caelli representing Prospect Vale. SOME of Tasmania’s elite golfers were in action last week at the Keperra Bowl in Queensland.

The 72-hole Golf Australia Order of Merit event was conducted at the Keperra Golf Club. Launceston Golf Club’s Cameron Bell was the best of the Tasmanians, making the cut and finishing in 69th place.

The 24-year-old scratch handicapper shot rounds of 73, 74, 75 and 79, a 13-over-par total of 301.

Prospect Vale junior member James Fiddian also teed up for the event but missed the cut with 80 and 82.

New South Welshman Daniel Gale fired three rounds in the 60s and finished with a two-under-par 70 to win the event by four shots. GREG Rhodes led from start to finish to win his second Australian Men’s Senior Amateur crown last week.

Rhodes capped a great week at Royal Hobart, playing a key role in Victoria’s winning run to the Interstate Teams trophy on the famous Seven Mile Beach course.

Rhodes, 58, probably won’t write home about his closing round of 76 in blustery conditions that left him at even par overall after the third and final round.

But his second-day 68 had established the buffer the Coomealla member needed to coast to a three-shot victory from nearest rival Michael Barltrop, of Royal Auckland.

Rhodes, who first won this title in 2015, carded one birdie and five bogeys in blustery conditions, while Barltrop’s lone birdie was cancelled out by four bogeys in his 75.

Paul Chappell, from the Hartfield Country Club in WA, climbed into third place on six over. Local member Peter Shaw was the leading Tasmanian in equal 15th at 15 over par after a closing 78. THE Mowbray Golf Club has reminded competitors that entries for the 2017 Tasmanian Men’s Senior Amateur are now open.

The event will be conducted from November 15-17 and is open to competitors aged over 55. It will be conducted over 54 holes and will have an entry fee of $75 and will include concurrent handicap events. For further information contact the Mowbray Golf Club on (03) 6326 1333.
