Mile Twelve go far on road to success
IT’S
onwards and upwards for rising Boston-based bluegrass band Mile Twelve, who will perform live in Margate this weekend. Walking a fine line between original and traditional bluegrass music, Mile Twelve — Evan Murphy (guitar), Bronwyn KeithHynes (fiddle), Nate Sabat (bass), David Benedict (mandolin) and New Zealand-born Catherine “BB” Bowness (banjo) — are quickly gaining recognition in bluegrass and folk circles for their captivating instrumental pieces and polished live performances.
Since getting together in 2014, Mile Twelve have performed extensively throughout the US, Ireland and Canada, including sets at major events including the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, FreshGrass Festival, Thomas Point Beach Bluegrass Festival and Joe Val Bluegrass Festival.
The International Bluegrass Music Association, recently named Mile Twelve winner of its 2017 Band of the Year Momentum Award.
Mile Twelve have now embarked on a month-long tour of New Zealand and Australia to promote their debut album Onwards, which is set for release next week.
They play at The Brookfield Shed in Margate from 2pm Sunday, supported by recently relocated Hobart duo The Stragglers — who play “ratbag bluegrass and boozy folk tunes”. Tickets are $25 pre-sale from trybooking.com, or $30 at the door.
