Brazill ready for juggling act

- REBECCA WILLIAMS

THE pre-season is about to become a whole lot more demanding for code-jumper Ashleigh Brazill.

The Magpies netballer will be preparing to play for two sporting codes over summer after being secured by Collingwood in yesterday’s AFLW draft.

Taken by the Magpies with pick No.35, 27-year-old Brazill now faces a hectic start to 2018 with the AFLW season, followed by her commitments with the Super Netball competition.

A later start to the Super Netball season in late April next year — because of the Commonwealth Games — has allowed her to fulfil her dream of combining the two sports at once without a clash.

She knows it will be a juggle — but she is ready.

“It’s going to be tough,’’ she said. “We’ve had both [netball and AFL] coaches, both high performance [managers] in the one room working through different programs.

“With netball now being full-time, we train during the day and football [training] is at night so there is a little leeway. I’m sure we’re going to hit hurdles along the way, we’ve talked about that. But I’ve got the club’s full support.

“There will definitely be a lot of recovery sessions that I’m not used to that will have to be thrown in there.’’

Brazill was the starting wing defence for the Magpies in the first Super Netball season this year and has played four Tests for Australia.
