GAP in the pipeline

-

During the past financial year, two matters were referred to Tasmania Police for investigation.

The Integrity Commission liaised with police on eight matters in total.

The report shows a vast number of complaints were lodged against local governments, with seven misconduct complaints made relating to Brighton Council, four to Clarence City Council, five for Dorset, two to Glenorchy City Council and four to George Town Council.

Misconduct complaints about the Department of Justice significantly increased on figures for the previous year, up to 22 from 13 in 2015- 16. TASRACING has lodged a development application for a dedicated facility for its Greyhound Adoption Program in southern Tasmania.

The state-owned company says in its annual report it is pushing on with plans for a GAP rehoming facility, having submitted a development application to council.

The proposed facility will be near Pontville, with the proposal in its final stages.

Adoptions from the program rose 30.6 per cent in 2016-17 — 111 greyhounds rehomed.

Tasracing posted a profit for the second year in the row — $371,898 after tax — the two results in the black coming after the State Government cut nearly $3 million from stakes to stem a recurrent funding shortfall.

Racing Minister Jeremy Rockliff said the industry was now on a sustainable footing.
