Dream believer for state’s young players

- JAMES KITTO

FORMER Sydney Swans academy strength and conditioning coach Ross Brosnan has joined AFL Tasmania’s State Academy – and says he wants to help young Tasmanian footballers “achieve their dreams”.

Brosnan spent the past four years in Sydney working closely with the Swans’ academy in sport science and strength and conditioning roles.

Originally from Ireland, Brosnan said he was excited about his new role with AFL Tasmania and in particular working in developing the state’s young stars.

“After a number of talks with AFL Tas, a new role opened up and I jumped at the opportunity,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to implementing what I know to the players and helping them hopefully achieve their dreams.”

AFL Tasmania talent manager Jy Bond believes that Brosnan will provide a wealth of knowledge for Tasmania’s State Academy players.

“To have someone of Ross’s experience and ability now in our program, it can only benefit our boys and girls going forward,” Bond said.

“The strength and conditioning part of football development is so high on AFL clubs’ agendas. Players are expected to not only be able to kick the ball but have elite speed and endurance, so it’s fantastic to have a person like Ross at our fingertips to upskill our players.”
