Decision looms for coach at Demons

- BRETT STUBBS

NORTH Hobart coach Kane Richter is expected to make a decision on his future by the end of the week.

Richter, who has been playing-coach of the Demons as well as the general manager, is weighing up a position with AFL Cape York in Far North Queensland, where he has worked previously, or sticking around trying to resurrect North Hobart.

And he is not the only big piece of the Demons puzzle with a big decision to make.

Winner of the past two best and fairests and by far North Hobart’s best player, midfielder Ryan Matthews, has been approached about returning to his original club Aspley after three seasons in the Tasmanian capital.

Both would be huge losses for the Demons, who have undergone a tumultuous offseason after the members voted overwhelmingly to return the club from Hobart City back to its original name of North Hobart.

While missing out on the finals in both seasons under his reign, Richter, under-resourced and battling both the coaching and management dual positions as well as playing, has made the Demons a competitive outfit, going from six wins, a draw and 11 losses in his first year to nine victories and nine defeats this season.

There is already one confirmed loss for the Demons with tough onballer Jayden Charlton signing on for the Hobart Tigers SFL club for next season.
