The Tiger cull continues

- BRETT STUBBS

THE “out with the old, in with the new” mantra is continuing at Cricket Tasmania, with last season’s stand-in coach Richard Allanby the latest to be shown the door.

Allanby, who was the Tigers academy coach and pathway manager, was told he would not have his contract renewed after 11 years working for CT.

A former Cricket Academy product who played two firstclass and two one-day games for Tasmania, Allanby stepped up as coach after Dan Marsh was sacked midway through last season.

He unsuccessfully applied for the permanent position that was eventually won by Adam Griffith.

Allanby, 46, follows former chief executive David John- ston, Marsh, Hurricanes coach and Tigers senior assistant Damien Wright and cricket manager Andrew Dykes, all of whom have moved on either voluntarily or involuntarily in the past 12 months.

CT high performance manager Drew Ginn said the decision was made for the betterment of the previously struggling Tigers.

“This is an important time for Cricket Tasmania and the decisions like this one and the ones that have been made this year are all to ensure we take tangible and significant steps towards our goals to drive performance change in our teams,” Ginn said.

Allanby said that he had enjoyed his time with Cricket Tasmania.

“I’ve loved working at CT and I’ve made some wonderful friends over the journey,” he said. “It’s been very enjoyable to develop many younger players into first-class players — some of whom went on to play for Australia.

“I’m very disappointed not to still be involved in the organisation but respect the decision.

“I’m looking forward to the next chapter in my life and will follow the Tigers closely.”
