Please switch off

HOW nice and how much appreciated it would be if people turned off their mobile phones before entering auditoria and cinemas. The light from a mobile phone is so bright in the darkness that it is painful to the eyes and distracting to others who would like to sit quietly in anticipation of the pleasure of the event they have come to see. Laugh a minute

IT may seem unlikely at present, but if Rob Sitch or Shaun Micallef decide to do a sitcom based on the Glenorchy City Council saga then there’s only one Aussie outfit that could do justice to the theme song: Human Nature. Stephen Jeffery Sandy Bay

Great food

SINCE moving from Brisbane seven years ago, I have had to use the Royal Hobart Hospital, both times for serious matters, and I couldn’t complain about the medical staff or the excellent food. We would have to have the best. D. Gregory Carlton

Pity algal bloom victims

I FEEL sorry for the people who have worked with shellfish infected with the algal bloom on the East Coast for the past couple of months. Everyone, stick by your bosses at this tough time, as it is no fault of ours. It’s called mother nature. I hope other organisations can see this from our point of view and we can all start work again as soon as possible. Brent Cashion Hobart

Actions speak louder

THE statements from Jacquie Petrusma about the Hodgman Government’s plans to tackle the lack of public housing and affordable housing for young people were another whitewash (Talking Point, October 23). Always another paper initiative, always the same story with just paper plans to entice voters months out from an election. Peter Taylor Midway Point

No problem

I HAVE a sign on my fridge which to me sums up all sides of the marriage-equality equation, both same-sex and traditional. The sign says: “Abolish divorce, stay single!” Steve Bailey Glenorchy

More raids in order

I NOW look forward to the AFP raiding the offices of the big end of town to check on their political donations. Donald White Bellerive

I want Jacinda

COULD NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern please cross the ditch and bring her policies with her? No more purchasing of homes by foreign buyers, a cut to immigration and focus on regional development and job creation. S. Ireland Bellerive
