Glenorchy Rodman keeps record intact

GLENORCHY Rodman and Buckingham won in tight finishes in the fourth round of the Bowls Tasmania South Premier Division season on Saturday while Beltana, New Norfolk and Rosny Park all recorded big wins.

Glenorchy Rodman continued its unbeaten start to the season with a nail-biting two shot win over Kingboroug­h. Despite losing to Ben Dayton by eight shots, Tony Vince played a big bowl on the last end to help the home side win. Glenorchy Rodman won on the other three rinks. Josh Baker, with great support from Grant Allford, beat Tony Clark by seven shots. Rod Flack debuted for the home side and played well in the lead spot for Luke Turner who defeated Jason Fowler by two shots. In a great game Cam Tegg prevailed by one shot over Taelyn Male.

With scores level, Buckingham’s Alvin Cooke won the last end to give Buckingham a thrilling oneshot win over Sandy Bay. Cooke was in control leading Phil Hobbs by 12 shots after 14 ends but Bob Bye started to fire for Sandy Bay and Hobbs reduced the margin to two shots with two ends to go. Cooke steadied to win by four shots.

With Grant Chamberlai­n leading well all day, Keghan Booth defeated Andy Norris by 15 shots.

Sandy Bay won on the other two rinks with David Douce coming from behind to beat Mick Taylor by nine shots and Bryce Guy defeating Stuart Rees by nine shots.

Beltana defeated a disappoint­ing Claremont by 76 shots. Owen O’Driscoll led the rout with a 34 shot win over Barry McDonald, and Shane Young easily defeated Jack Ellis by 28 shots.

New Norfolk surged into the top four courtesy of a 70 shot all-rinks win over Brighton in which Kerry Hill defeated David Cure by 30 shots.

Rosny Park had a solid 64shot win over bottom side Derwent City.
