Canes pick up pace in Moody

- KYLE WISNIEWSKI

THE Hobart Hurricanes are close to finalising their list with the signing of fast bowler David Moody.

Moody has filled the second-last place in the Hobart Hurricanes BBL|07 playing squad, signing a twoyear contract.

The 22-year-old was impressive in Western Australia’s recent JLT OneDay Cup win and will be making the move south after not being able to crack the Perth Scorchers squad.

“There are some great players with the Scorchers and I’ve learnt a lot from them, but to actually play is an experience I’m really looking forward to,” Moody said.

He will be joining West Australian teammate D’Arcy Short and will work closely with the Hurricanes bowling coach Adam Griffith.

“I’ve done a lot of work with Adam Griffith, who’s down there now, so it will be good to work with him,” he said. “When the news got to D’Arcy he came straight over to me at training and congratulated me. I’ve played with him for a couple of years now and really enjoy playing with him, so to have a friendly face over there will be great.”

The fast bowler’s pace and bounce was a key to his success in his five games in the JLT Cup earlier this season and Moody will continue to play his aggressive style of cricket if he is picked for the Hurricanes.

“Wherever the Hurricanes’ coaching staff see me being able to contribute I’m happy to take that on board, but traditionally with WA my aim has been to intimidate batsman and be aggressive,” he said.

“I’ll look to try and do that for the Hurricanes.”

The Hurricanes’ final player for the BBL squad will be finalised in the next few weeks. BBL|07 squad: George Bailey (capt), Tim Paine (vice-capt), Dan Christian, Hamish Kingston, Cameron Boyce, Clive Rose, Ben McDermott, Jake Reed, Beau Webster, James Bazley, Simon Milenko, Tymal Mills, Tom Rogers, Sam Rainbird, D’Arcy Short, Tom Curran, David Moody.
