These Tassie folk making their mark

-

HOBART band Frumious have been selected to play at the National Folk Festival in Canberra in March.

Tasmania is one of the featured states for the 52nd National Folk Festival, along with Victoria.

High-energy quintet Frumious are the first act from Tasmania to be named on the line-up.

Formed in 2014, Frumious are made up of Bea Harrison-Day, Taylor Lewincamp, Jes Lewincamp, Finn Rees and Ziah Cooper, who are aged between 16 and 21.

Frumious have previously brought their upbeat fusion of folk and gypsy jazz to the Cygnet Folk Festival and the Taste of Tasmania.

They have also played at the National Folk Festival twice — once as “guests”, and once as full members of the line-up.

Harrison-Day said the festival was the biggest event Frumious had played at, and can’t wait to go again.

“It’s really exciting, it’s a great opportunity to go and play to a whole new set of people and meet new great acts from all over the world,” she said.

“We’re already planning our trip up there. We’re all going to pack into the family wagons and drive all the way up.”

The National Folk Festival is a fiveday celebration of music, song, dance, circus, spoken word and film, featuring more than 200 national and international acts.

The festival runs from March 29 until April 2 in Canberra.
