-

A CRASH between a motorcycle and a car on a suburban Launceston street claimed the life of the motorcyclist.

Police said a Summerhill man, 41, lost control of his motorcycle on Hillside Crescent, West Launceston, just before 9pm on Wednesday.

The man collided with the right front side of a silver Mercedes driven by an East Launceston man, 57.

Police said the rider was taken to the Launceston General Hospital and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Mercedes driver and his passenger, a woman, 53, also of East Launceston, were not injured.

Yesterday, a woman was seriously injured in a five-vehicle crash on the Brooker Highway at Glenorchy.

Police said a white Ford Fal- con travelling south through the intersection with Elwick Rd collided head-on with a green Ford Falcon travelling north about 2.45pm.

“The female driver of the white Ford sedan received significant injuries and was conveyed to the Royal Hobart Hospital,” Sergeant Luke Walker said.

“The male driver of the green Ford sedan received minor injuries and was conveyed to the hospital.

“Three other vehicles were also involved and received minor vehicle damage only with no injuries to the occupants.”

Sergeant Walker said investigations into the cause of the crash were continuing.

North-bound traffic was diverted through Goodwood while the scene was cleared. also
