JACK Trengove yesterday won the AFL lifeline he desperately craved with the delisted Melbourne midfielder signing at Port Adelaide.

It is out Jackson Trengove, in Jack Trengove at Alberton with the Power thrilled to add the discarded Demon’s leadership.

While the former Melbourne captain has played just seven AFL games since 2013, his body has held up over the past two years.

In that time Trengove, 26, has played 35 VFL games, averaging 24 disposals through the midfield and defence.

The popular Demon and respected clubman managed 86 games in eight years after he was drafted with the No.2 pick.

“We are all well aware of the skill level and pure football ability that Jack possesses,” Port Adelaide list manager Jason Cripps said.

“But most importantly he also brings great character, integrity and leadership to our club, which will be invaluable to our entire playing group.”

Trengove was happy to continue his career anywhere in Australia and was yesterday thrilled to earn a second chance in his home state alongside former Demon and close mate Jack Watts.

“I still feel as though I have plenty to offer with my experience and leadership and I can’t wait to start this new phase in my career,” he said.

The move is not only a second chance for Trengove, but also a homecoming for the midfielder who had played his junior football with Sturt in the SANFL.

“I am so appreciative of Port Adelaide providing me with another chance to play the game I love,” Trengove said.
