Applications flow for jobs and investment funds

- NICK CLARK

A $25 MILLION funding package promised during the 2016 election campaign has received more than 100 applications, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Darren Chester says.

Mr Chester said the response showed there was demand for the package.

“The Coalition’s Regional Jobs and Investment Package for Tasmania is going very well,” he said.

“The projects are now being assessed by the relevant department and the grants will be rolled out on schedule, creating jobs for Tasmanians.

“I’m looking forward to visiting Tasmania next week to participate in the transport ministers’ meeting and will be inspecting progress on infrastructure projects which are being rolled out in partnership with the State Government.”

The Regional Jobs and Investment Package was one of 10 earmarked for regions across Australia and funded in the 2017 Budget.

Franklin MP Julie Collins said it would be disappointing if the package was delayed.

“The Abbott-Turnbull Governments have a terrible track record on delivering the prom- ises they have made to the people of Tasmania,” she said.

“Funding commitments for the Hobart Airport runway extension, for an upgrade to the Cadbury factory in Hobart, and the Tasmanian Jobs Program have either failed, been delayed or abandoned altogether.”
