Tranquil scenes

I WAS very glad I caught the wonderful Derwent exhibition at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery before it closes on Sunday. The tranquil videos of foggy water scenes at dawn were especially beautiful and restful. Such footage would be suitable for places like airports and waiting rooms, which normally feature inappropriate commercial content one can neither blot out nor afford to get interested in before a flight or appointment.

Fun with a conscience

WITH all the hype about Melbourne Cup it would seem as if the world revolves around it, but on the flip side is a growing movement of Nup to the Cup. There are the activists who take drastic steps and, agree or disagree, their hearts are in the right place. Many are choosing to demonstrate we can have fun without it being at the expense of an animal’s life. Our group WEST Coast does not have a low member base. We had over 75,000 members this year and finished in the top eight. I’m looking forward, as many Eagles supporters that I know are, to seeing them finally back in Hobart. I can’t wait.

Test the AFL

NEXT year being another year of Australian Football League contempt for Tasmania regarding rostering of teams for the North and South, it may be time for Tasmanians to turn their backs on AFL indifference, withdraw million-dollar subsidies to Hawthorn and North Melbourne and test their commitment to the state.
