Unbeaten streak stays alive despite pressure

GLENORCHY Rodman recorded a thrilling four-shot win over Sandy Bay in the sixth round of the Bowls Tasmania South Premier Division season on Saturday to remain the only unbeaten team in the competitio­n.

Josh Baker helped Glenorchy Rodman over the line by defeating Bryce Guy.

Baker was nine shots down after 13 ends but finished up winning by 11 shots in a great turnaround.

Cam Tegg, with Greg Hartshorne leading well all day, had a narrow one-shot win over Andrew Norris.

Sandy Bay won on the other two rinks with Brad Mabb defeating Luke Turner by five shots and Josh Mabb hanging on against Tony Vince to win by three shots.

Brighton travelled to Rosny Park and gave the ladder leaders a big scare early, opening up a 12-shot lead.

However, Rosny Park came home strongly to win by 33 shots. Mick Sweeney came from behind to defeat Greg Fehlberg by 12 shots. Dave Genford had great support from Paul Hoddy in defeating Tony Bartninkai­tis and with Rick Ormerod leading well, Lee Schraner beat David Cure by 11 shots.

Paul Williamson fought back to hit the lead against Grant Wakefield, but scores were level playing the last end.

An umpire was required to determine Wakefield held the winning shot on the last end for a well-deserved one shot win over Williamson.

Kingboroug­h defeated Beltana by 12 shots.

Taelyn Male had a big 21shot win over Shane Young. Jason Fowler scored a two on the last end to defeat Nic Courto by one shot. Beltana won on the other two rinks.

John Mastrippol­ito led well for Michael Coppleman, who beat Ben Dayton by nine shots. Despite dropping seven shots on the last end, Owen O’Driscoll hung on to defeat Tony Clarke by one shot.

New Norfolk defeated Buckingham by 18 shots. Barry Bone was too good for Andrew Chamberlai­n, winning by 11, Wayne Clark defeated Michael Taylor by five shots and Mitch Banks beat Keghan Booth by five shots. Buckingham’s Stuart Rees defeated Kerry Hill by three shots.

Derwent City had a 16-shot win over Claremont.

Ricky Maughan defeated Brett Ellis by 16 shots, Ross Bannister finished 10 in front of Alan Smith and Rod Turner beat Tony Hack by five. Claremont’s John Howard accounted for Mark Kaye by 15 shots.
