Soak up sun before rain arrives

- ALEX LUTTRELL Weather details: Pages 26-27

TASMANIA will get a slight reprieve from scorching weather tomorrow, with rain forecast to hammer parts of the state across coming days.

While Hobart is expected to reach 31C today, and Launceston 26C, the Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting a cold change to cross the state about midday tomorrow.

Hobart will drop to 27C tomorrow with rain forecast, before a big drop to 17C on Thursday and more rain.

Bureau forecaster Debbie Tabor said a low pressure trough from the mainland would meet a cold front from the south to bring some watery relief to Tasmania tomorrow.

Ms Tabor said Hobart could receive rainfall of 6- 20mm tomorrow, Thursday and Friday.

“A cold southerly change will arrive around midday [tomorrow],” Ms Tabot said.

“We will get some reasonable falls around Tasmania, particularly the East of the state. We have got the potential for 10-20mm [of rain] across the North and East [tomorrow] but could get some higher falls.”

The chance of rain is 90 per cent tomorrow and Thursday, before dropping to 80 per cent on Friday and 40 per cent on Saturday.

The rain is expected to ease Friday before temperatures improve for the weekend, with forecasts of up to 25C on Saturday, 27C on Sunday and 27C on Monday.

But before the rain hits, the Tasmania Fire Service has issued a very high fire danger warning for parts of Tasmania’s South-East today.

A high fire danger rating is also in place along the East Coast, Central Highlands and parts of the West, North and North-West Coast.

A strong wind warning is in place for waters on the East and West coasts.
