Devils ready to breathe fire

- JAMES BRESNEHAN

THE Hobart Devils could not be in better hands than Tasmania’s former Boomer Mark Nash as they prepare for their inaugural Champions League Basketball 3X3 campaign, says league boss Matt Hollard.

The Devils and Townsville were revealed by the Mercury yesterday as the foundation clubs for the exciting new CLB3X3 — elite three-on-three basketball, which has also been added to the Olympic program for Tokyo 2020. The founder of CLB3X3 and competition general manager, Hollard, said Nash, one of the best basketballers Tasmania has produced, was the right man to make the Devils breathe fire.

“We are very proud and honoured to have an individual of Mark’s calibre join our team and head up a very important piece to our brand” Hollard said. “Mark is one of the most highly respected individual ballers to have played in Australia.

“He represented the Boomers in the 2001 East Asian and Goodwill Games and the Australian under-20 team in the 1995 Junior World Champs and has since gone on to carve out his own professional career outside of basketball.”

Nahum Ziersch, the designer of the Adelaide 36ers’ new look, designed the Devils’ striking strip.

The Devils will send men’s and women’s teams to Melbourne in two weeks for the inaugural tournament.
