Sounds like it could be well worth bottling

rock fans will try to keep a lid on their excitement when Melbourne “sonic whirlwind” Jarface hits Hobart this weekend. Described as “the unashamed result of alternative rock, grunge, metal and stoner rock all meeting up at a truck-stop rest room for some sweet, babymaking good times”, Jarface started out as a duo, with Matt McGinty (guitar, vocals) and Sean Flentjar (bass) playing covers in a dank Melbourne basement.

Quickly realising that they actually weren’t very good at playing covers, McGinty and Flentjar decided to start writing their own stuff and recruited drummer Marco and guitarist Rick to round out the Jarface line-up.

Fast-forward a few years and Jarface have earned a decent following and established themselves as regulars on the Melbourne live scene thanks to gigs at some of the city’s best venues, including the Cherry Bar, the Northcote Social Club, the Ding Dong Lounge and the Espy’s Gershwin Room.

Now Jarface are ready to take things to another level with the release next month of their debut album, Now They See — a “sonic whirlwind” of heavy riffs, raw vocals and massive drums that features the singles Sucker, Never,

Burn The Effigy and Absolution. Jarface play at the Brisbane Hotel from 8pm on Saturday, with local supports The Midways, August Wolfbiter and The Hudson Cartel. Tickets are $5 at the door.
