Jazz is Corson through her veins

-

BE seduced by the velvety voice and smooth, soulful stylings of Meg Corson when the visiting Melbourne jazz singer performs in Hobart this weekend.

Corson first found fame as a member of internationally renowned a cappella group The Idea of North.

Her nine years with the group provided a wealth of experience, including invaluable mentoring by James Morrison; the release of acclaimed, charttopping albums; two MO Award nominations; and even a performance at the MCG for the AFL Grand Final.

Since leaving The Idea of North in 2002, Corson has fronted jazz bands, big bands and orchestras for major public events.

She has also performed with and supported the likes of James Morrison, Don Burrows, Marcia Hines, Jose Feliciano, Vince Jones and Guy Sebastian, and even sung for actor Geoffrey Rush on his 60th birthday.

Joined by local musicians Greg Souter (guitar), Paul Calverley (bass) and Rit Comber (drums), Meg Corson will play three gigs in the Hobart area this weekend, performing familiar jazz classics, tunes by newer jazz artists such as Melody Gardot and Caro Emerald, and songs from Corson’s debut solo album, Wonder Woman.

After performing at a private house concert tomorrow night, Meg Corson plays at the Henry Jones Art Hotel’s IXL Long Bar from 6pm on Saturday (with Randal Muir); and at Beachfront 32 in Kingston from 6pm on Sunday.
