Paul and Woody sign off

ONE of Hobart’s most popular radio duos has signed off for the last time.

Paul and Woody, the breakfast crew from Hit 100.9 FM, pulled the plug at 9am yesterday.

Both are heading interstate after a four-year stint in Hobart.

Woody, also known as Esther Woodhams, has plans to follow in the footsteps of a Hollywood star.

“I’m gonna attempt the whole Julia Roberts’ Eat Pray Love thing,” she said, tongue firmly in cheek.

“However, I fear it may end up being Eat Drink Regret.

“Being from Hobart, I grew up listening to radio and, in the end, I was lucky enough to grow up talking on it.

“This decision we’ve made, I’m sure, will be easier for people to take than it was for us to make.

“Even though my co-host’s mantra every morning was to do something that would get us fired, sadly for some people that didn’t happen.”

She said she wanted to thank all those who had “shared their lives with us on air, made us laugh and even those that bothered to complain”.

Her other half, Paul Hogan, said it was time for him to prepare for impending fatherhood and a move to Western Australia.

“I’m completely aware of how crazy it is to walk away from a number one FM radio breakfast show, but it’s time for me to man up,” he said.

“My girlfriend will give birth any day now and it’s become increasingly obvious that she needs a support network that involves more than just a grey-headed bloke with a dad bod. And who knows? Maybe the kid is mine. So off we go to WA!

“For all of those wonderful Tasmanians who listened to us, I can’t thank you enough. And for those who didn’t, I’m envious of your IQ.”

Hit 100.9FM content director Phil Bradley said Paul and Woody’s spot would be filled by a summer breakfast show until the end of January, when a new breakfast team would be launched.
