Villa win puts icing on cake for Mile

- London

SOCCEROOS captain Mile Jedinak capped a spectacular week by claiming bragging rights over national teammate Massimo Luongo when Aston Villa beat QPR 2-1 in England’s second tier.

Jedinak scored all three goals in Australia’s win over Honduras in Sydney on Wednesday, ensuring Ange Postecoglou’s side a fourthconsecutive World Cup berth.

On Saturday the 33-yearold came on in the 81st minute, while Luongo was substituted at the break. Luongo’s QPR side looked like taking a 1-0 lead into halftime courtesy of Jamie Mackie’s 18th-minute strike but Albert Adomah equalised from the spot in added time.

The Ghanaian then scored the winner in the 58th minute.

“Albert has added goals to his game, which is great,” Villa manager Steve Bruce said.

“He’s done very well. At the start of the season he wasn’t in the team and he didn’t moan or groan.

“He got on with it, came into my office and said, ‘I’ll prove you wrong’. He trained well, worked hard and when he gets his chance he takes it.”

Wolves returned to the top of the Championship as goals from Ivan Cavaleiro and Matt Doherty helped the Midlands club secure a 2-0 away win over Reading.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side moved two points clear of Sheffield United, who beat Burton Albion 3-1 on Friday.

Derby had to settle for a 1-1 draw with mid-table Fulham.
