Kangaroo Bay no choice

LOCALS do not have a choice. It has been made clear by Chambroad Petrochemi­cals, the developer, and the council, that if this Kangaroo Bay developmen­t applicatio­n is not accepted, Chambroad Petrochemi­cals will build the original councilapp­roved DA. This threat is distastefu­l. While the new DA is an improvemen­t, it does not address so many issues: sale of crown and public land; traffic; height and style; lack of parking; loss of community access to foreshore; lack of community consultati­on and notificati­on about the new DA. Neither developmen­t embraces the history nor protects the beauty of this wonderful historic bay. This is private profit at the expense of a community.

This coup OK

I’M not normally a fan of military coups but, under the circumstan­ces in Zimbabwe, I’m happy to make an exception. African countries have had a long history of tyrannical despots and Robert Mugabe is up there with the worst. Indifferen­t to his people’s suffering, Mugabe and his henchmen have lived lavish lifestyles while Zimbabwean­s have struggled to exist. His wife Grace Mugabe is best known for her shopping sprees to South Africa. Robert Mugabe came to power in the same year John Lennon was assassinat­ed and has shown disdain for his people ever since.
