Condors’ victory touch and go
IT was a high-scoring affair between Tigers and Condors in Round 6 of the Southern Touch League men’s Premier Division.
Condors got the jump early and seemed to have control of the game before a second-half revival from the Tigers closed the gap.
Condors raced to the break with three multiple scorers and a 7-4 lead, with old heads Jason Haines and Ben Langford controlling play.
After the break the Tigers rallied and through some individual brilliance from Brent Mills and Cameron Fogarty won the second half, but it was to no avail as Condors held off the persistent cats to take the victory 10-8.
Pirates won their battle against the Phantoms by setting up an early advantage and maintaining their buffer throughout.
It was a heated affair with several players taking a forced break from play, but it was the Pirates who capitalised and converted on more opportunities to run out eventual winners 8-6.
In the women’s games, Tigers tightened their grip on the competition with a commanding 14-3 win over a depleted Pirates outfit.
Tigers coach Rebecca Oliver dominated play with four scores of her own and was ably assisted by Em Price. Madi Gadd put up a fight for Pirates but it was in vain as her team couldn’t match the class of the victors.
In the final match of the round, Sharks led Phantoms early before Rebecca Norquay led the charge back, outgunning her opponent and turning the tables late in the game, setting up a Phantoms win.
Not much could separate the two teams with the 6-5 scoreline a telling tale of both teams’ competitiveness.
