Moody blues as Canes lose bowler

- ADAM SMITH

THE Hobart Hurricanes have been dealt another blow before the start of the Big Bash season with bowler David Moody ruled out with injury.

Western Australian Moody, nephew of former Test allrounder and dual World Cup winner Tom, signed a two-year deal with the Hurricanes in late October.

However he will miss the entire BBL|07 campaign after being diagnosed with stress fractures, which will sideline him for four to six months.

Hobart has already had to find a replacement import for initial signing Tom Curran, who was called into the England Ashes squad when Steve Finn was sent home with injury before the start of the series.

Little known Barbadosborn all-rounder Jofra Archer was named in Curran’s place last week.

The Hurricanes are also expected to be without vice-captain, keeper and opening batsman Tim Paine until at last mid-January, following his call-up to the Australian team for the Ashes.

Paine’s absence leaves a gaping hole at the top of the order, with skipper George Bailey, Ben McDermott and D’Arcy Short the only fully fledged recognised batsmen left on the list.

Moody’s injury means the Hurricanes have two spots to fill for the forthcoming tournament.

Former Brisbane Heat and Adelaide Strikers left-hander Nathan Reardon could be a surprise addition to the list.
