Chastened Crows return

- REECE HOMFRAY

ADELAIDE’S senior players fronted for pre-season training yesterday vowing to work hard to earn another shot at the holy grail.

Midfielder Richard Douglas said while his team had returned to the track hungry after losing the Grand Final to Richmond, they were well aware the game offered “no guarantees” they would get that opportunity again.

Douglas said he hasn't watched a replay of the MCG disaster but expects to analyse it with senior coach Don Pyke this week when players will “own up” to what happened.

“Day one of pre-season, the year starts here and we’re looking forward to attacking it,” Douglas said.

“It’s about improving in all areas and attacking each session. We have three solid weeks pre-Christmas and will have a quick break for a bit then we’ll go again.”

North Melbourne recruit Sam Gibson made a good impression by winning the 2km time trial from Jake Kelly and Rory Sloane.

Gibson was one of several new faces at Crows training along with first-round draft pick Darcy Fogarty and Carlton recruit Bryce Gibbs.

“For an older guy like me it rejuvenates you a bit,” he said.

Captain Taylor Walker, recovering from surgery on his finger and ankle and sporting a newly shaved head, was among those on a modified training program yesterday.

“He’ll be back post-Christmas, he’s just doing what he needs to with his foot and he will be right come January,” Douglas said.
