Oates, White lead way

- ADAM SMITH

T A S MANIA’ S u n d e r - 1 9 cricketers have not let the disappointment of a tied first match linger, bouncing back to easily account for the CA XI in their round two contest.

Backing up after a thrilling encounter with NSW Metro on Monday — where captain Dylan Hay was run out on the last ball coming back for a second run that would have secured victory — the Tigers were too classy for the national invitation side at the Twin Ovals.

Led by spearhead Shaun Redman (4-34), the home side bowled the CA XI out for 195 in the 48th over.

Mackenzie Harvey was the only batsman to flourish with an impressive 78, but it was the only score above 20 as the visitors lost regular wickets to stunt any momentum.

Jarrod Freeman was the other multiple wicket taker for Tasmania with 2-32 from his 10 overs.

A strong start to the run chase allowed the Tigers to cruise to their target, with Keegan Oates posting a solid half century and sharing a 57run opening stand with Noah van de Werken.

Oates then combined with Jack White (69 not out) — who has shone for the under-19 side in the Kookaburra Cup competition — to add 63 for the second wicket.

The Tigers overhauled their mark in the 45th over with six wickets in hand.

In other matches yesterday, Queensland defeated Victoria Country and ACTNSW Country was too strong for the Northern Territory.

South Australia scored a narrow win over Victoria Metro while defending champion Western Australia went down to NSW Metro.

All sides will have a rest day today before action continues in Launceston tomorrow, with Tasmania to clash with South Australia at the NTCA ground.

On Friday the hosts meet Victoria Metro at UTAS Stadium in what will be the first under-19 championship match to be played under lights.
