Not only the lonely will appreciate it

-

DON’T be lonely next weekend — hook up with Hobart groovers Lazer Baby, as they return home to launch their latest single.

Currently featuring Sam Dowson (drums), Jamie Taylor (guitar, vocals), Paul Sharp (bass) and Sabine Bester (vocals, trumpet), Lazer Baby formed in Hobart in 2014 and began blending the members’ diverse individual influences — including RnB, jazz, metal and hip-hop — into a unique sound full of heavy grooves and urban vibes.

Those wide-ranging influences shone through on the band’s 2015 debut EP, LAYZABB. They have gone on to support touring acts including Northeast Party House, Alice Ivy, ALTA and Winston Surfshirt, and play at the Falls, Party in the Paddock and Mofo festivals.

Last month Lazer Baby unveiled their intricate new single, So Lonely — the group’s first release since LAYZABB more than two years ago.

It is a strong representation of the band’s current musical direction, showcasing their blend of vocal-based songwriting and ’90s RnB flavours.

To launch So Lonely, Lazer Baby set off on a national tour, playing shows in Sydney, Perth, Fremantle and Melbourne last month. Now they’re back home to finish the tour with one final gig: at the Republic Bar in North Hobart from 10pm next Friday (December 15).

They’ll be supported by local blues-rock band Jensen, and Launceston duo Sumner. Tickets are $7 at the door.
