Light up your night
LOOKING for something a little more sophisticated and chilled this New Year’s Eve?
GASP LIGHT NYE 2017 — an evening of contemporary dance, experimental sound art and music designed to “illuminate new points of potential across time and space” — might just take your breath away.
The event will feature a packed program of live performances by Peak Body, Scot Cotterell, Ani Lou, Philomath, Soil, Dani Kirby and Mat Ward, and DJ Smokin Mango.
Melbourne percussionist, theatre composer and sound artist Nat Grant will also team up with her frequent collaborator, experimental electronic artist Richie Cyngler. Exploring the intersections between improvisation, chance and intention in the development of sound as a sculptural medium, Grant’s works link consciousness and memory, allowing interaction between audience and performers.
The New Year’s Eve festivities will also offer patrons the chance to be part of the contemporary revival of two Devil Devil Dance projects: Joowarri Joonba, by the Gooniyandi Dancers of Fitzroy Crossing in Western Australia; and Riyawina Warruwa Kanaplila, by Tasmania’s Pakana Kanaplila Dancers, which has not been performed since 1847.
GASP LIGHT NYE 2017 will be held outdoors at the Glenorchy Art and Sculpture Park Pavilion at Wilkinson’s Point, Glenorchy, from 7pm on December 31. Tickets are $25, $15 concession, with children under 16 admitted free (with a parent or guardian).
